Backstory:
Voxir was born in Bordeaux, France to a young single woman. She was excited for the baby, expecting a healthy son. The birth took place at her home that she shared with her elder brother, a priest. A midwife and the midwife’s apprentice were also present at the birth. When Voxir arrived it was joyous until the midwife saw the infant’s eyes. The brother looked and gasped in horror. A devil child! Accusing his own sister of sleeping with the devil and carrying his child! Bringing shame already to their family by being pregnant out of wedlock and not naming the father but now a curse upon their home and church. He ordered her to kill it or else it will bring “the end of the world”. It broke the mother’s heart, but she obeyed her brother.
The priest was about to dispose of the newborn until the midwife spoke up. She would have her apprentice do it. Explaining that “it will be part of her future duties for when bastard children need to be ‘disposed of’. The priest nodded and waved his hand. He had to deal with his sister. After several lashings he will send her to a convent to protect her soul.
The midwife had taught her apprentice how to handle bastard/unwanted births. She had several locations she would send the newborns. For a child such as this infant, those born with defects or deformed, they were to be taken to the mortuary home. The head mortician would raise them and teach them to be morticians, grave diggers, stone carvers, jobs that would keep them out of the public eye. …As well as the art of necromancy.
That was not publicly known of course. Just as the head mortician’s teacher before him, and the teacher before him. He took the newborn in. He already had several young children and men who tended to care for one another. The head mortician, Adrien, named the newborn Voxir, due to his rather loud wailing that he said “Could wake the dead.”
As the years went on, Adrien taught all his students facts of life and death. That it is simply a part of life and to study it removes the fear of it. Taught hands-on classes. Teaching that necromancy was a dark art if abused. Many cruel and unjust deaths happen every day but do not always turn to the art. That life needs balance. Necromancy is an art that is meant to be learned to aid the dead, not one’s self.
Every few years, Adrien would choose a few of his students who he believed were ready to take their final test before becoming a true necromancer. They must face Death and see his true face. For one to meddle in Death’s affairs, you must not be afraid to encounter Death.
Voxir was 22 when Adrien felt he was ready for the test. Voxir and five other students were to meet Death.
Adrien and Death have met themselves. Death knew of this “Necromancy school” for centuries. It was one of the few. There was an arrangement. Set in stone by the first first owner and creator of the mortuary home. The dark art is to be taught, but to be respected and not abused. To pass the knowledge and skills on so it does not disappear. And that if it is abused by any of this “school”, they personally will meet their end by Death himself. Also to control the amount of those who knew the art. Many students who take the test do not survive.
As Voxir and his fellow classmates, more like friends and brothers, stood in the dark ritual chamber. Far below the surface so nothing would be heard above. Adrien summoned Death, a ritual only passed on to the next owner and teacher.
The six stared on to the face of their final end. Three dropped to their feet and died. Two screamed as their sanity was destroyed and became mindless husks. Voxir’s scream pierced the night. A deafening scream that even had Adrien cover his ears. Then silence. Voxir remained standing. His eyes still red. His heart still beating. His mind still intact, but all expression left his face. He felt no fear. No sadness for his brothers. No excitement for surviving this test. Nothing.
Voxir had passed. He had met Death and remained. What had died within him was emotion.
Another few years and another single student passed the next test. Adrien had 3 necromancers now. 3 possible heirs to become the next teacher. He was growing older and his body was growing weaker.
Voxir, Jean, and Maël. Jean was older, just turning 42. He arrived as a 10 year old runaway. Natural survival instincts, strong. More muscular than the other 2. More of a father figure to the younger men and boys. Maël just passed. Dropped off as an infant just as Voxir was, A young 24, excelled in his necromancy studies and skills, precision with a knife, and his own inventive ideas, but the downside is that he is still so young. Voxir is 28 now. Experienced, diligent, calm, unaffected by nerves or doubt. Logical and attentive. He would be a fine teacher, but his lack of emotion had Adrien worried about the care of the younger who needed that emotional connection.
In the end, Adrien chose Maël to be his successor. A young leader is what was needed, but Jean would remain and take the place of an advisor. As for Voxir, Adrien wanted his skills to be of use and Voxir wasn't used to being around others. A majority of them weren't, but Adrien knew of the perfect place for Voxir. A place that was warm and welcoming, accepting of all.
Voxir was sent to the France branch of The Satanic Ministry, led by Cardinal Klaus Lambert. There, he would spend several years working as the Ministry’s mortician and researching necrotic arts. He made the catacombs below his home, mostly staying there. Not truly interacting with other members, aside from Cardinal Klaus and his family who would visit him.
A few times Voxir had encountered a Reaper known as Grim while reviving a few animals that met unjust ends: a few male deer killed only for their horns, small animals left behind in traps, baby birds who fell from their nest. The Reaper was not happy about necromancy obviously, but since they were animals and not humans or others, he let it slide.
After the Cardinal left to aid the main branch in California, Voxir moreso kept to himself. Busying himself with his work until the French branch received word that a mortician was needed at the main branch. They offered the position to Voxir and he accepted. The Cardinal would be there so at least there will be someone familiar and new surroundings would mean new items to collect and inspect.
Voxir packed his trunks, not too thrilled about the thought of flying but it would be the quickest and easiest way to get to California. He imagined they would have large catacombs and a large morgue.

Necromancy - Voxir knows the dark arts of necromancy and can raise the dead, whether it be human, animal, ghoul, etc. and if so chooses to, he can control their mind and actions.
Extras:
Mortician - Voxir is a mortician first and Necromancer second. He knows every bone/organ/muscle in the human/ghoul/etc body after years of studying and hands-on experience.
Collector - Voxir’s cloak is not only stylish, but functional. He keeps vials for collecting materials, objects he can possibly use for his spells/needs. Etc: feathers, mineral stones, sea shells,(not that he often visits the beach) flower petals, bone dust, dirt, etc.
Researcher- Voxir has several journals he created himself from tanned animal skin and filled with all his mortician/dissection notes and diagrams. Also same with Necromancy notes.
True neutral - Voxir does not consider himself evil nor the act of necromancy evil though he rarely ever uses it unless to simply bring back animals. He has a strong sense of balance.
Artist- Voxir is quite gifted in artistic means. He draws diagrams of objects to the highest detail including coloring and shading. Even as far as making his own paints to get the right coloring.
