Ocean Eyes - Rain & Swiss.

It was a topic Rain had been avoiding, at the end of the day. That being Swiss. Much like the others, she was fairly torn up at the sudden, devastating news that he had vanished over night. Though he had seen a few come and go over the years, it never hurt any less. He wishes he was numb to it by now. He wishes he was stronger - though perhaps he was not giving himself enough credit in that regard. She found herself holding everyone closer after that, especially Phantom who had gone nonverbal for weeks after the whole debacle. As more time went on, the more Rain dwelled on everything that led up to Swiss’ disappearance, the more the stars aligned in a way that almost made sense. The Skeletour had changed Swiss. Rain, ever the observant, had noticed that quickly. She tried to nip it in the bud then and there, too. Warning the multi ghoul of the Ministry’s known intolerance for misbehaving ghouls. Whereas his offered support wasn’t something he assumed would magically solve Swiss’ problems, given their history - he kind of hoped it would. Especially when so many depended on him. The pack, the fans…himself. The first Ritual without Swiss had simply felt empty. Musically and of course, emotionally. Another piece of the pack missing and worse, without a proper explanation. Sure, Rain could assume some reasoning as to why Swiss may have been cast away - though his exact fate was left up to their imaginations no matter how many side-eyes he had given Perpetua. It all left a bitter taste in her mouth. Simultaneously wondering if there was more she could have done and wishing Swiss had done more to ground himself before going off the deep-end. Being the therapy-bandmate and generally aiding in regulating everyone’s emotions, Rain did tend to put blame on himself for things like this more than not. Even still, the more she dwelled on it - the more he seemed to realize that things were not so black and white. In fact, they learned more in one way than another, this time. Imagine the water ghoul’s surprise when he heard rumors of Swiss being right here in the very building they had met. Hiding away from the pack like a coward after Rain and many others had practically mourned him as if he were dead. Seeing Phantom sulking over again was probably his last straw. After rehearsing what he might say countless times in the mirror and spending too long deciding what to wear, Rain decides to make her way over to see what really happened for herself. Taking a few deep breaths, he dares knock on the door he had once entered freely. Someone she had come to after long days and spent longer nights beside. He shakes his head, clutching the tray of cookies she’d made as some form of peace offering like it was her lifeline. He figures if he were to get upset, say how he truly felt for once - his baking might soften the blow.

With everything in the air, Rain can only hope that the worst of this is over. Even still, she knows this would not be a linear road to recovery. Not for Swiss alone and much less for their relationship. He’s glad they were able to talk in spite of it all. Happy that his packmate had been comfortable enough, trusting enough to share such harrowing information. He slowly stumbles towards the doorway, using the wall as a support and pausing a few times between strides. Not only due to physical ailment, but moreso, hesitance. Like she doesn’t want to leave but at the same time, knows there is not more to say. Nothing more to be done, at least not now. Plus, if his current complexion and composure say anything, it’s that he’s overdue for his post-tour medical exam and should be on her way to visit Everest before the doctor comes seeking him out herself.

Glancing over her shoulder at Swiss, the bassist’s eyes noticeably softened. In spite of everything, that was undoubtedly still Swiss. The very ghoul he had spent countless hours alongside over the years since their respective summonings. It only makes her chest ache worse, shoulders tensing up over again as he slumps against the doorway. The multi ghoul’s question earns a thoughtful expression, his mind racing for a cohesive answer that doesn’t seem to come. As much as she wants to blurt out yes, of course…he can’t. If there was one thing he valued over kindness, let it be honesty. Something he was working on being more often in spite of usually leaning in a direction which spared all feelings but his own.

“With time…I think so.” the water ghoul musters, looking away and reaching for the doorknob. “I think I should p-probably go…get medical attention.” twisting the knob, she can’t help but glance back once more - her expression nothing short of longing. “Take care, Swiss…I hope this time, we keep in touch.”

With that, Rain makes her departure. The door closes with care, so quietly you may not even notice if you hadn’t seen him exit. What exactly their future together held, the siren was not sure - though she still clung onto a hope that it would one day bring the same joy their bond once had.
